A beautiful accent piece for my girls bedroom made possible by DecoArt. This painted metallics side table is perfectly reflective with just a hint of shimmer without being over the top. Let me show you how I achieved this finish using DecoArt Americana Decor metallics acrylic paint.
A DIY tutorial to make a painted side table using DecoArt Metallics paint. Get that true reflective metallic finish on your furniture piece.
This cutie wood side table just might be my favorite and most fun furniture piece in our whole home. And the metallic finish went on super fast and easy with no priming or sanding necessary. Do you have a piece of furniture that would be perfect for a metallic paint finish?
For this side table I used DecoArt Americana Decor metallics paint in the color berry. It’s durable and reflective finish gives that subtle sheen perfect for this side table. And you can even use this paint on your walls! The patent pending reflective technology makes the light reflect evenly off the painted surface, resulting in a true metallic finish.
Capturing that true metallic finish in a photo is quite a challenge and I must admit these photos do not do it justice. DecoArt metallics are available is 21 colors in an 8 oz. wide mouth jar. I previously used the matte metallics paint on a mirror frame and that came out gorgeous. These metallic paints have just the right amount of shine and shimmer.
DecoArt Americana Decor Metallics acrylic paint:
- non-toxic and cleans up with soap & water
- no priming necessary
- no sealer necessary
- sand between coats for super smooth finish
- two coats for opaque finish
This paint is the perfect finish choice for a side table, an entry sideboard, a frame, nightstands and more. I even used it on this checkerboard game for my kids in the color emerald.
This one 8 oz. paint pot will cover 35 square feet which is just the right amount for two coats on a smaller piece of furniture. I used about 4 oz. for this side table applying two generous coats. Down below I’m sharing how to create a metallics painted side table.
Supplies:
- unfinished wood furniture piece
- DecoArt Americana Decor Metallics acrylic paint in berry
- paint brush
- sandpaper (220 grit)
- drill & 5/16″ drill bit
- hammer
- wood wheels
Step 1: Wipe any dust from the wood surface and be sure surface is smooth.
Step 2: Using a paintbrush begin painting on Americana Decor metallics evenly. Let dry thoroughly. Then give a light sanding to remove any raised bits. Paint a second coat to achieve an opaque sheen. Let dry completely.
Step 3: If desired attach wood wheels using a drill and hammer.

Do you recommend sealing this paint at all?
Jaime says
There is no need to seal this paint of course if you wanted to add a clear coat of poly that wouldn’t hurt.
Nina says
hi! can i use this paint to color the metal surface? like vintage bags hardware? thank you!
Jaime says
Hi Nina, yes it will work on some metal surfaces. I recommend a light sanding first if possible and definitely a clear sealer after especially on hardware that will see a lot of wear and tear. Good luck!
