Looking to add a splash of color to your outdoor space? This fun and easy colorful wood bunting adds just the right amount of color. If you have some scrap wood then I’ll show you how to make this decor project.
A DIY tutorial to make colorful wood bunting. Grab some scrap wood and colorful outdoor paints for this cheery and easy decor project.
How fresh is this colorful outdoor wood bunting hanging on the fence? This is an easy project that adds tons of punch and color to any space. I made this wood bunting for our pool fence but you could hang it practically anywhere.
And because this is an outdoor project I used DecoArt’s Patio Paint Outdoor acrylics. They are available in 53 beautiful colors and I choose 8 bright summery colors for my bunting.
This makes a great scrap wood project and a fun painting project for kids to get involved too. Let the kids paint the pieces and they’ll feel a sense of pride and accomplishment seeing the bunting they helped paint.
Wood Bunting Tips:
- scrap wood (sheathing is best for outdoors)
- stack cut in groups
- use DecoArt Patio Paint outdoor acrylics
- make long enough for your space
I shared the colorful wood bunting in full effect on my Instagram feed (follow me there to see what’s happen now!). And you can make the bunting to fit your space and tailor the paint colors to fit your needs. Get the complete step by step instructions at DecoArt’s project page here.

This is just too cool. It really looks amazing on the fence and I love that it's more sturdy to keep outside.

Hi Jamie, thank you for posting your picture of that beautiful bunting you made! It is awesome, and maybe I will make that!
Right now I have a plastic bunting that a year later is shredding in spots and it lost most of it’s colors months after I put it up!
Thanks again you are very good at decorating, and I appreciate you explaining how you did it! It look just amazing by the pool!
