I think I’ve sewn a bazillion zipper pouches in my lifetime and funny I remember making every single one. Sewing all these pouches for other people to use and cherish makes me feel so happy. I pulled together a few of the variations I’ve made on the zipper pouch in hopes you might find some inspiration.
25+ DIY zippered pouch ideas you can make. If you love to sew then a zippered pouch makes a great gift, check out all these DIY ideas.
I finally pulled together most of the zippered pouches I have shared on this blog over the years so readers have one easy reference page. All the styles, fabrics and variations complete with links to their original tutorial post. In all honesty the tutorial is basically the same for each pouch so get out that zipper foot and I guarantee once you make one you’ll be hooked!
First item you need are zippers. My favorite source with great variety and custom options is Jennie at ZipIt Zippers. She has the best source for bulk orders of zippers in all different sizes and colors.
Once you have your zippers and style variation selected you can begin sewing. Below are a variety of pouches I have made in the past:
DROP CLOTH EXTERIOR VARIATIONS
GOODY BAG SIZE:
SEQUIN MONOGRAM:
F – full name pouch
I – chalk pouch
TERRY CLOTH EXTERIOR VARIATIONS
I recommend using medium weight terry cloth bath towels for the exterior. They can be inexpensive towels even from the dollar store. You don’t want super thick and plush terry because it’s too difficult to pass through the sewing machine. I usually find the bath size on sale at Kohl’s for $5 each, one bath size towel makes about 6 pouches.
R – monogram
SEERSUCKER EXTERIOR VARIATIONS
COTTON FABRIC EXTERIOR VARIATIONS
Any cotton fabric will work for the exterior provided you use medium weight interfacing during construction for stability.
S – orange medallion print, single letter monogram
T – small polka dots, single letter monogram
pink & white polka dots (goody bag size and cosmetic size)
Hope you see something that sparks inspiration. Such a fun gift idea to make and then fill with a special treat or gift card. I hope you enjoyed the zippered pouch roundup. Check back as I’m always making new and different pouches.
Please be sure to share your pouch projects on social media and tag me so I can share your fun ideas too!
