Wallpaper makes an easy solution for adding pattern and texture to your wall and you don’t have to wallpaper the whole wall either. I was challenged by the folks at Porch.com to make something fun and creative using wallpaper for a pattern play project. And I actually came up with two projects: wallpaper wall art and wallpaper flower bouquet.
If you’re not familiar with Porch.com yet they are a home network with connections to accredited home improvement professionals. It is a giant information source for all things home and DIY, definitely check it out!
Porch.com teamed up with Scout & Nimble to supply us with wallpaper and I choose this Graham & Brown Kensington English rose pattern:
Originally I never planned on coloring the flowers however when the wallpaper arrived all the beautiful black and white hand-drawn details had me looking at this paper like a coloring book.
The options are endless if you choose to add color, you could make it suit any scheme.
While the wallpaper wall art looks great framed above my desk I wanted to get a little more creative.
So I took the flowers and cut them out to make a paper flower bouquet! I’ll show you how down below.
First the wallpaper wall art:
How to make wallpaper wall art:
Step 1: Use permanent markers to color inside the flowers.
Step 2: Cut out wallpaper to desired size (12″ x 12″) and adhere to 1/4″ plywood backing with spray adhesive.
Step 3: Make a frame using 1×2 pine boards glued and stapled at corners.
Step 4: Affix plywood with wallpaper to back of frame with finish nails. Staple wire hanger on both sides for hanging.
For the paper flower bouquet:
Step 1: Cut out floral portions of the wallpaper.
Step 2: Iron on medium weight fusible interfacing to the back.
Step 3: The interfacing helps stiffen the paper.
Step 4: Cut out around the flowers using small scissors then an exact knife for the tiny in between spaces.
Step 5 (not pictured): Hot glue wire to the back of the flowers to act as positionable stems.
