Paint: Silent Night sign
Christmas door swag with handpainted Silent Night sign.
I thought long and hard about how to decorate our orange front door and ended up with this non-traditional sign and swag combination:
Inspiration came from this Pottery Barn Kids catalog image of a green silent night sign hanging on the fort bed:
I don’t think the sign is actually available for purchase but it was the perfect idea for our Christmas front door this year:
I found the font Centeria Script at dafont.com, it’s the perfect blend of script and upright letters, not too slanted:
Add some pinecones hanging on burlap strips and evergreens:
Here’s how to make the silent night sign:
1. Cut a 1×8 pine board at 20″.
Trace a small pot for the corner cut outs and cut out with jigsaw:
2. Make 7/8″ holes at top:
3. Print out lettering to fit.
I used Centeria Script font in 350 point.
Line up lettering and trace printout with ballpoint pen to make indent in wood:
4. Paint on and inside indent left behind by pen:
I used white gloss enamel.
5. Stain with Minwax Early American:
6. Seal with Minwax Helmsman exterior grade clear semi gloss poly:
7. Add jute rope for hanging:

I am so in love with your signs. I made myself a Christmas on for the front door. I actually wrote a blog about it, and gave mention of you.
You are a wonderful teacher. Thanks so much.

This is just awesome! I love the shape of the sign and the font, too (totally downloading that puppy). I love that it really blends with your front door instead of competing.
Also, I'm totally digging the swag.
