DIY Heather Wreath

Does you garden grow like a jungle and you’re feeling the need to trim back? That’s exactly where the idea came from for this DIY purple heather wreath. So check your garden for overgrowth and let’s make a live wreath using what we have on hand.

A DIY tutorial to make a wreath using purple heather. Create a beautiful summer wreath using live heather trimmed from your garden.

This tutorial uses purple heather for my heather wreath but you can apply this same method to almost any plant life with a strong stem. I had these purple heather plants taking over my sidewalk and they were in desperate need of trimming. Because I couldn’t bare to throw out the overgrowth I made it into a very organic and natural looking wreath.

This heather wreath cost me barely anything to make. Because we’re using cuttings right from the yard and some wire I was able to create this heather wreath for almost nothing. And I’ll show you how down below, then you’ll want to make a wreath out of all the things!

Easy Heather Wreath:

use clippings from overgrowth
no wreath form necessary
grab a spool of floral wire
inexpensive and beautiful

The wire will hold all the cuttings together and help create the circular shape. And because I used green floral wire it’s barely visible until you get up real close.

Supplies:

pile of purple heather branch clippings
floral wire
wire cutters

Step 1: Gather a big pile of heather branches cut from the yard.

In Step 2: Begin by making small bundles of heather branches and wrapping the wire around the stems.

Step 3: Place one bundle slightly on top and in front of the previous bundle and wrap the wire around as you go. And continue to add small groupings of heather until you have enough to create a circular shape. Your heather wreath looks great when you let the branches do their thing and not try to tame them.

Step 4: To complete the wreath shape tuck the last stems under the branches of the starting point and wrap the wire tight. Finally add a burlap strip for a hanger.

As a result this is such an easy way to create a stunning natural heather wreath.
