DIY Scroll Saw Floral Wreath Tutorial

March 21, 2018

Scroll saw meet the Spring wreath.  A departure from the classic Spring wreath I took my love for scrolling and made a grouping of flowers and greenery for this fresh DIY scroll saw floral wreath.

A DIY tutorial to create a floral wreath using a scroll saw. Use wood, MDF and a scroll saw to cut floral shapes and make a unique wreath.

I painted all the flowers and greenery fun, bright spring colors and then attached them to a natural wood background.  Then I framed up some blue and white gingham fabric and used that as my ultimate background to complete the wreath.

I recently shared my Spring mantel and finally put together the tutorial on how to make this scroll saw wreath.  If you love scrolling this is a project for you.  Search through free clip art and find the designs you love, print them and make a collection of bright colored flowers and leaves for a beautiful, original wreath.

For my round wreath shape I used a pre-made wood round and cut a hole in the middle – on the scroll saw naturally.  These wood rounds come in a few sizes or you could use any other backing you like.  I’m thinking this wreath works for summer too unless my scrolling bug kicks in and has me making something new!  Below I’m sharing the tutorial on how to make a scroll saw floral wreath.

Supplies:

  • scroll saw
  • blades
  • 15″ wood round
  • 1/2″ & 1/4″ MDF scraps
  • various floral clip art print outs
  • spray adhesive
  • bench sander & sandpaper
  • acrylic craft paint & paintbrushes
  • super glue gel

Step 1: Print out desired shapes.  Apply light coating of spray adhesive to back of print then press onto MDF.

Step 2: Use scroll saw to cut out shapes.  Watch my video here if you want to see this cutting in action.

Step 3: Pull off paper pattern or sand off as needed.  Sand any rough edges smooth.

Step 4: Paint using acrylic craft paints.  Two coats is best.

Play around with the flower placement making sure the colors are arranged well.

Step 5: Cut out a 6″ circle from the center of the wood round.  I highly recommend doing this BEFORE you adhere the floral pieces.

Step 6: Use super glue gel to adhere onto backing.

Hang and enjoy for seasons to come.  You can make just about any shape you desire on the scroll saw, show me your projects by tagging me on social media @jaimecostiglio !

Hi J, no pattern. I use Picmonkey to make my pattern – they have a ton of fun graphics within the program or you can download free clip art and upload it to Picmonkey to create a pattern.
