Make this easy caddy from scrap wood and you have a perfect last minute birthday gift! And I have the free plans for you down below too.
It’s so versatile.
I loaded this caddy with art supplies but wouldn’t it be great for hair supplies or make up for the older girls?
The best part is it’s portable. The handle hole makes carrying a cinch.
How to build a gift caddy:
I built this caddy to fit the plastic containers. Measure your containers and build to fit adjusting the width accordingly.
Lumber cuts:
2 – 1×3 @ 10″ (long sides)
2 – 1×3 @ 8 1/4″(short sides)
1 – 1×8 @ 8 1/4″l
1 – 1/4″ plywood @ 10″ x 9 3/4″
Step 1: Build the box frame using 1 1/4″ finish nails and glue.
Step 2: Arch the sides with a jigsaw and cut out the handle hole in 1×8 using a 1 1/2″ spade bit.
Step 3: Insert handle piece centering in box and finish nail in place.
Step 4: Attach bottom 1/4″ plywood using nails and glue. Sand smooth.
Step 5: To add name print out letters (I used Abadi MT Condensed font at 175 point.) and center printout on side of caddy. Using a ball point pen trace outline of letters with heavy pressure.
The pressure of the pen leaves an indent in the wood.
Step 6: Paint on and inside the indent. Seal the entire caddy with polyurethane.
