“C” is for Cupcakes

September 28, 2011

Sweet cupcakes painted sign.
No inspiration here, I just had this one in my head.
A little different from all my previous signs, I made a frame to complete the look:

The sign is distressed as usual:
Who can resist a little sweet treat?
Here’s how I made the sign:

1. Using 3/4″ plywood scrap (17″ x 9.5″) paint two coats base color.
Print out letters and align on wood.
2. Use ball point pen to trace letters.
Paint inside the indent.
Layer up the colors and add decorative details.
3. Sand to distress.
4. To make frame cut lattice molding to length.
(molding is 1/4″thick x 7/8″wide)
5. Glue and nail long frame pieces on top and bottom first:
6. Repeat process for short ends.
Sand lightly to smooth corners.
7. Stain with Minwax Ipswich Pine.
Seal with satin poly.
Makes my house feel like a real sweet shop.
I’m loving the framed edge, you can bet more signs will be finished in this fashion.

Very cute — like the way you framed it out — now all I can think about is how much I'd love a cupcake 🙂
