Paint: thirty-one gifts sign
One of my extended family members is a consultant for Thirty-One Gifts and she asked if I would make this collage style sign for her home office:
The ‘B’ butterfly is part of her team logo, it’s painted in silver but a bit hard to see in the photos:
She requested a black background with white lettering and bright pink details, we settled on white for the frame and I think it works great:
In addition to the inspiring words and team logo she included her start date:
Here’s how I made the sign:
1. Print out lettering and arrange layout to fit board:
(I used a 12″ x 12″ piece of craft paper to simulate board.)
2. Cut 3/4″ plywood board at 12″ x 12″, prime and paint black.
Layout lettering and trace outline of letters using a ballpoint pen:
3. Paint on and inside the indent left behind by the pen:
4. The key and large ‘B’ are painted in silver:
5. Add fuchsia dots with back end of paintbrush:
6. To make the key appear in the background, almost shadow-like, use fine 220 grit sandpaper and gently tone down the paint:
7. Seal the sign with clear spray gloss.
8. Cut 7/8″ lattice wood strips to fit for frame:
9. Prime and paint wood strips white gloss:
10. Glue and nail strips in place:
11. Add a sawtooth hanger at center back:
