Save those wood scraps! You can build tons of gifts, accessories and decor using wood scraps. Today I’m sharing a quick round up of kids gifts I’ve made using wood scraps.
This super simple crayon holder was built using 3 – 9″ 1×3 scrap boards. See how easy it is and get the full tutorial here.
What kid doesn’t love ice cream? And play ice cream bars last forever, make them now!
Two pieces make this fast bookend and personalize it with the child’s letter or leave it plain, either way let them paint away. We made these at my daughter’s build-it birthday party and they were so much fun, see how here.
Slice up a 2×2 into square blocks, mod podge letters onto the sides and you have quick alphabet blocks. Click here to see how I made this Beatrix Potter version, any theme will work or you could even paint letters right onto the wood.
Every kid needs a pencil holder. Build this simple version and fill it with fun pencils, see how here.
Looking for a game to build? Another fast project is this travel size tic tac toe game with a drop cloth bag for all the pieces. See the how to here including the sewing tutorial for the pouch,
Attach two pieces of wood scraps and you have the best little pencil holder around. Simply cut a 2×2 block and screw it to a 1×3 scrap, drill a hole for the pencil and you’re good to go. We made these for for Valentine’s Day last year.
Kids love play food and this popsicle set will make a great addition. Making them is fast and easy but perhaps the most fun is painting the pops! See how I made this play popsicle set here.
All little girls love jewelry so what better gift to give than a wood jewelry stand (made from scraps of course!). I’ll show you how I built this pretty glamorous version here.
Perhaps the most versatile of all the scrap builds is this wood trug. Paint it any color, pattern or style, add the child’s name and fill with anything and you have a great gift. I’ve made dozens of these over the years and the most recent tutorial is here.
Lastly we have bunting made from wood scraps painted with the child’s name, one of my favorites. It’s chunky, has depth and weight and is totally personalized. See how to make this wood bunting here.
Now go look in your wood scrap pile and make something fun!
I love those ice cream bars – looks good enough to eat!
That crayon holder would be right up Henry's alley. He loves putting things away like that.
