Sew: personalized lumbar pillow
I made this pillow for Ana’s banquette, a decorative accent pillow with fun personalization (yes her last name is White and the letters were made with white cotton fabric).
In place of a long zipper I added 3 ties made from 1/4″ seam binding:
Inspired by this Pottery Barn pillow no longer available:
The natural fabric and white lettering work great with the stripes on Ana’s banquette.
Here’s how to make the lumbar pillow:
1. Using a store bough king size bed pillow cut top third of the casing off and remove some stuffing:
Sew remaining portion of pillow closed.
2. Print out lettering to fit pillow.
(I used Ariel font at 600 point.)
3. Make fabric letters.
Apply fusible med. weight interfacing to wrong side of letter fabric.

Pin letter print out to fabric and cut along outline:
4. Cut main pillow fabric, I used a portion of a curtain panel found here.
This pillow will have 3 seams: top is a fold edge, 2 short side seams and bottom seam.
Arrange letters with even spacing and pin in place:
5. Zig zag stitch letters in place:
6. Now sew sides and bottom seams.
On bottom seam sew in about 5″ from short end then press raw edge under twice and top stitch.
Sew 1/4″ seam binding tape pieces in place for ties:
