How to Repair or Install Pan Cabinet Storage Dividers

April 18, 2014

How to repair or replace dividers for pan cabinet storage using a Kreg jig.
pan cabinet storage dividers
We recently moved to a new – old home and naturally inherited lots of projects that need tending to.
It’s been 10 months and I’m just getting around to the kitchen.  It’s a good bones functioning kitchen with solid wood cabinets.
But it needs a little TLC.

Problems:
1. Change paint color. (The new color is Benjamin Moore iron mountain.)
2. Remove sticky melted plastic drawer bumper residue.
3. Repair loose dividers in pan storage cabinet.
(The new hardware is D. Lawless antique iron cup pull.)

Hers’s how I repaired the loose dividers using my Kreg jig.

Above is a true before shot, clearly the dividers are barely attached, flopping all over the place and not providing any pan support.
(If adding new dividers to an existing empty cabinet use 1/2″ plywood cut 4″ shorter and 4″ shallower than your cabinet, then cut the curve with a jig saw.)
remove existing dividers
Step 1: Remove the existing dividers.

Step 2: Sand cabinet smooth to remove residue and prepare for painting.

Step 3: Use your Kreg jig set at 1/2″ depth and make pocket holes at the back and base.

Step 4: Reinsert one divider with glue and attach with 3/4″ pocket hole screws.

Step 5: Now attach the second divider.  THIS WILL BE SLIGHTLY DIFFICULT IF YOUR DIVIDERS ARE 3 1/4″ APART.  It took lots of manuvering to get the screws secured but it was possible.

I’m working in a 12″ wide cabinet, if you have a wider cabinet consider spacing the dividers about 5″ apart to give you more space with the drill when securing the screws.

Also consider painting everything BEFORE you reattach the dividers, it will be much easier.
Your pan storage cabinet is complete.  Enjoy!
Disclaimer:  I was not compensated for this post, all opinions and thought are my own.  I simply enjoy using my Kreg jig and thought I would pass along my experience.
