Oilcloth flashcard pockets.
Only 26 more long days until school starts for girl #1, yes I’m counting.
On the supply list this year – addition and subtraction flashcards.
Easy enough, found some in the dollar bins at Target:
I got to thinking those cardboard boxes probably aren’t going to hold up very well.
Inspired by Martha Stewart’s oilcloth beach cover ups:

I made my own oilcloth pouches from scrap pieces.
Here’s how I made the pouches:
1. Cut oilcloth to size – this is my formula:
width = thickness + width + 1/2″ SA
length = lengthx2 + thicknessx2 + 2 1/2″
2. Fold over all short ends 1/4″ and top stitch:
3. Center small piece of velcro on right side of oilcloth about 1″ from short end:
4. Stitch velcro.
5. Test fit the flashcards, make sure you leave enough space for little fingers to pull the cards out from the top:
6. Straight stitch side seams with 1/4″ SA, place cards back in to determine placement of other velcro piece.
7. Stitch other velcro piece to wrong side of oilcloth.
(You can barely see the other velcro piece but it’s there.)
8. Add your flashcards and you’re ready for school.
Get out your P-touch and label those pockets!

But it’s highly unlikely any other student will have the same gingham oilcloth pockets as girl #1.

So cute Jaime! I have tons of extra oilcloth that needs to be sewn into something. My kids don't start school until September. At 8am I'm so glad they are home and then by 4pm I'm counting down the days until school!

I love these Jamie! I made an ipad cover like this with oilcloth! Such a great idea, your little pouches are going to be really durable and will be strong despite some wear and tear, but best of all they are really really pretty!!! X
I would guess that the cardboard box would last less than 2 weeks with my kids 🙂 Your daughter will have much more durable protectors and sooo much cuter!

you're right those flashcard boxes always end up torn and that means missing flashcards, so instead of losing all the 5X's this is such a better idea!
