DIY Tic Tac Toe Game

I hope everyone is enjoying their gifts, especially all those handbuilt gifts!  Today I’m sharing this tic tac toe game that’s great for gift giving all year long.  Inspired by my fellow blogger Amy at Her Tool Belt who built an oversized tic tac toe game with free plans here:

Amy’s version uses 4×4’s for the blocks and I love the chunky size and Christmas motif!  I made this smaller version using a 1 3/4″ square dowel for the blocks:

It’s a super fast project that will have you making multiples for all your friends.

Below are plans to build this tic tac toe game.  Please follow all safety guidelines when using power tools!

Supplies:                                                      
1 – 1 ¾” square dowel (sold @ 36”, enough to make 2 games)
1 – 1×8 @ 7 ¼” pine board scrap
1 – 1×2 @ 36”
1 – ¾” square dowel
1 ¼” finish nails
wood glue 

Cut List:
1 – 1×8 @ 7 ¼” (tray base)
2 – 1×2 @ 7 ¼” (short sides)
2 – 1×2 @ 8 ¾” (long sides)
2 – ¾” square dowel @ 7 ¼” (long dividers)
6 – ¾” square dowel @ 1 7/8” (shorter dividers)
9 – 1 ¾” square dowel @ 1 ¾” (blocks)

Step 1:  Attach short sides to tray base using wood
glue and 1 ¼” finish nails.

Step 2: Attach
long sides to tray base using wood glue and 1 ¼” finish nails.

Step 3: Attach
long dividers to tray using wood glue and 1 ¼” finish nails.  Be sure all 3 sections are spaced equally.

Step 4: Attach short dividers to tray
using wood glue and 1 ¼” finish nails. 
Again be sure all sections are spaced equally.

Sand well and finish as desired.  Paint X’s and O’s on the blocks.

      Hi Donald, the x and o blocks are squares (cubes) at 1 3/4″ x 1 3/4″ x 1 3/4″
