Doll Chair Makeover

August 7, 2012

A doll chair makeover with paint.

A friend had this cute little doll chair just waiting for a fresh paint job:

She asked for pink paint and a white letter ‘A’ for the little girl’s monogram.

This chair fits 18″ American Girl dolls perfectly:

And the personalization makes for a nice touch:

diy doll chair refinished
Here’s how I refinished the doll chair:

1. Sand down old paint and rough edges:

sand painted surface
2. Paint two coats pink.
Print out letter to fit seat space, I used Century Schoolbook font at 350 point.
Center letter on seat and using ballpoint pen trace around edges:

trace printed letter
3. Using white acrylic paint on and inside the indent left behind by the pen:

4. Add dark pink dots around the edges of the letter:

add dot trim detail
5. Seal with chair with Minwax spray poly clear semi-gloss:

Ready for Kit or any doll:

I think I'm going to want a few of these next year when Claire starts playing with dolls. I love that monogram!

Love what you've done – monogram, great idea. Poor American Girl looks so serious tho ~
