Camp Care Package

April 1, 2017

It’s summer and that means summer camp for the kids.  I truly love everything about summer camp and have tons of fond memories as a kid away at summer camp.  But perhaps one of the best parts about summer camp is receiving care packages!

Make a camp care package for your campers this summer. Include all the fun camp essentials with my free printable care package checklist.

Every summer my kids and their cousins go to sleep away summer camp for at least two weeks.  They talk about summer camp all year long, they count down the days until camp starts and they make multiple revisions of their packing lists so as not to forget anything.  My kids absolutely love summer camp (and so do I).  So naturally I prepare a camp care package every summer and I’m sharing my list of ideas with you.  I ship the care packages ahead of their departure for camp because I know after a few days of settling in they will be eagerly awaiting to hear their name at mail call.

First up are the small things.  Think of small sized items that would be useful at camp.

Small Items:

  • travel tissue pack
  • hair binders
  • flashlight

Then pack all the small items in a container.  Of course your campers will have packed a flashlight and hair binders already but it can’t hurt to have a back up (ever leave your flashlight on all night?).  And girls are notorious for loosing hair binders so a few extras are nice.  I did throw in some candy but individually wrapped pieces means hopefully they are more likely to share with bunk mates.

This small flashlight is perfect but could easily get lost too.  I added a hanging string and some camp colored ribbons to personalize it and keep the flashlight more visible.
diy camp banner
Something a little untraditional is a camp banner.  Who doesn’t like to decorate their bunk?  I’ve seen everything from paper chains to fairy lights in my girls cabins.  I found this green and white polka dot banner at Target in the clearance section for .60 cents, printed out the letters onto cardstock, cut out and attached with double stick tape.  The whole banner has the camp name on it but I’m keeping that private, you could also do the bunk name.

Be sure to include something the whole cabin can enjoy.  I found this cute bunk game that helps the girls get better acquainted.  Any card game would be great: playing cards, UNO, Spot It, etc.

Along with the camp banner, bunk game, candy, flashlight, hair binders, and tissues I added some glow bracelets and disposable cameras.  I packed a separate box for each so there’s no confusion at mail call.  You’ll want to mail your care packages all together and fingers crossed they will receive them at the same time.

Below is the camp care package checklist:

This checklist is definitely tailored for girls but you could easily swap out a few items to make it more boy friendly.
