Spring Lawn Project: Patch those Problem Areas

April 29, 2022

*This post is sponsored by The Home Depot.

As Spring has sprung no doubt you noticed the yard has a few patchy spots.  There are some definite bald areas that are missing grass.  Congratulations you’ve taken the first step in identifying the issue so let’s fix it!

How to patch those problem grass areas and make your outdoor lawn beautiful this Spring.

Yes that’s a real picture of my lawn up above in the backyard looking like swiss cheese.  See all those patches of dirt where the grass is missing?  Never fear it’s fixable with two awesome Scotts products:

  • Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Soil
  • Scotts EZ Seed Patch and Repair

Head to your nearest Home Depot and grab Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Soil and Scotts EZ Seed Patch and Repair and let’s get started.

And while you’re there maybe pick up a Scotts Broadcast Spreader.  It’s not totally necessary for this project but it will make the application process more even and faster.

A few other supplies you’ll need for this project:

  • Outdoor work gloves
  • Rake
  • Hose and sprinkler

Back home and let’s get to it.

Step 1: Rake out any dead grass, twigs and debris left over from the winter.

Step 2: Apply a generous layer of Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Soil.  This is great for any seeding and patching projects because it contains fertilizer to help new seedlings grow faster and stronger.  Scotts Turf Build Law Soil also contains composted materials and peat moss which all leads to a thicker, greener lawn.

Step 3: Sprinkle a generous layer of Scotts EZ Seed Patch and Repair.  This product is actually a combination of mulch, seed and fertilizer that makes it possible for grass to grow almost anywhere.

Step 4: Lastly and maybe most importantly be sure to water.  The Scotts EZ Seed absorbs 6x its weight in water so really give it a good watering.

Now let nature do her job and we will be seeing grass sprouts soon!
