I recently completed a makeover of our mudroom back entry area.
It all started with paint:
Benjamin Moore dune white on the walls and london fog for the trim.
(The exterior of our home is painted Benjamin Moore cottage red, you can see it peeking in every window.)
I added two boards with 10 hooks.
A fairly simple project (tutorial here) that’s priceless.
We use these hooks every day, by far the most user friendly method for hanging all those jackets and gear.
A little steel wool on the original door hardware shined her up beautifully:
Known as the ‘drop zone’ I built this entry storage console with the help of my friend Ana White:
It’s perfect for all the kids shoes and accessories.
Complete with easy access baskets and large galvanized buckets with numbered wood tags.
On the opposite wall I built a chalkboard with a chalk ledge:
My kids love to doodle any time and it seemed a good spot despite that wonky alarm system pad (who decided to put that smack in the middle of the wall??).
This wall chalkboard has a ledge for all the chalk markers to rest, an easy diy project that would be great anywhere in your home.
And just for kicks here’s the before and after:
It’s brighter and much more user friendly with proper wall hooks, storage bins, counter space and an area rug.

Love it! I think a mud room space is such a must-have spot in a home these days! Love the paint colors too – my first question when I saw your photos "What's that color?" – thanks for sharing the names. 🙂

This is fabulous! I love the light walls with darker trim. I am wondering where I can try this look. It's just such a classic, timeless look. And this is a totally practical space for any family. Wonderful work!

Oh it is great! And I can only imagine that with kids it is so much more user friendly. I need to do something like this with our back entry…there just aren't enough hooks for all the coats, hats, and other snowy hanging things. : )

Your mudroom is gorgeous! It looks like such a functional space too. I'm so impressed with how you built the storage console! I really like the effect of doing the trim a color and leaving the walls white. I'd love the feature this on my paint color blog, Involving Color. Let me know if you're interested!

This is fantastic! I love that you went with a non-traditional color for the trim. So many people just do white or wood, but there are so many other options.
