This post about a pocket hole jig is sponsored by Kreg Tool. Meet the latest and greatest in pocket hole jigs from Kreg Tool – the 720PRO. And I have two words for you: SELF ADJUSTING. I have been waiting for this charmer for years and it’s finally here so let’s see what all the fuss is about!
A tool review of the Kreg pocket hole jig 720PRO. All the details on this must have tool for DIY furniture.
We all know Kreg Tool makes awesome jigs including the coveted pocket hole jig. I’ve been using the good old K4 pocket hole jig since 2012, that’s almost 9 years with the same jig! Holy smokes I can’t believe it’s been that long. It’s definitely time for a new and much improved model.
Pocket Hole Jig 720PRO
Right off the bat you will notice the beefier body of the 720. It’s sleek and ergonomic and slightly chunkier then previous versions. Also see those material support wings the board is resting on above? Similar to the K5 the docking station on the 720 consists of material support wings on which you can set a repeatable stop.
Included in the Box
- pocket hole jig body
- docking station: 2 material support wings, repeatable stop, jig clamp
- easy set drill bit
- driver bits (3″ and 6″)
- material thickness gauge (doubles as wrench)
- dust collection attachment
- 160 pocket hole screws
Self Adjusting
So you get all these bits and the jig but perhaps the best part about the 720 is that it is SELF ADJUSTING. Meaning you can swap between lumber of varying thicknesses all day long and never have to adjust the jig!!! Amazing.
See that black lever above where my hand is resting? That is the Automaxx clamp which automatically adjusts for materials 1/2″ to 1 1/2″ thick. Just slide your lumber in position, clamp it down and bingo! No more fussing with knobs to set the depth on the jig. And if necessary you can easily adjust the clamping pressure. You do still have to adjust the collar on the drill bit to match your lumber but if you get an extra drill bit you can leave them set on your most frequent used thicknesses (for me that’s 3/4″ and 1 1/2″).
Onboard Storage
You know a tool has been well thought out when it includes onboard storage for all the necessary bits and pieces. I mean how clever to house the drill and driver bits right there on the back of the pocket hole jig? A place for everything and everything in its place.
In addition the material support wings in the docking station have hidden storage that’s easily accessible.
Jig Transformer
After you’re done using the pocket hole jig for the day it stores beautifully compact. Simply swivel the material support wings upright and latch into position to store your jig.

I would LOVE one of these! I’m still using the very simplest Kreg jig that requires clamps and works fine, but this looks so much better…have fun!

I definitely need to upgrade to this, because I’m still using the one that requires a clamp. Even though it gets the job done this one would be easier and faster.

Yes definitely worth the upgrade! The self adjusting clamp is so smooth and easy. It’s a great pocket hole jig.
