DIY Scrap Cedar Wood Floral Boxes

November 20, 2017

Who doesn’t love the beautiful floral and greenery bunches at the local market?  They’re inexpensive and everywhere these days, even the big wholesale clubs have enormous bunches for cheap.  So why not make your own floral arrangements using scrap cedar wood boxes and inexpensive floral bunches?  I’ll show you how easy it is down below.

A DIY tutorial to make scrap cedar wood floral boxes. Create your own beautiful floral arrangements with inexpensive grocery store flowers and cedar boxes.

I made these scrap cedar wood floral boxes for a party last December and filled them using grocery store flowers and greenery from Home Depot.  Easy, inexpensive and beautiful.

In fact you probably already have enough scrap wood pieces on hand to make at least one box if not many.

Supplies: (for one box)

  • chop saw
  • measuring tape & pencil
  • 1 – 1x6x4 cedar wood board or 5 scrap pieces @ 7″l
  • wood glue
  • nail gun & 1 1/4″ finish nails
  • sander

Cut List: (for one box)

  • 1 – 1×6 @ 5 1/2″ (base)
  • 4 – 1×6 @ 6 1/4″ (sides)

Step 1:

Attach one side piece to the base using wood glue and 1 1/4″ finish nails.  Keep one edge flush and one edge 3/4″ overhang.

Step 2:

Repeat Step 1 adding more side pieces as you go around the base.  Be sure to also use wood glue and finish nails into the side joints.

Step 3:

Sand well.

To make the floral arrangements use a plastic food storage container (various sizes at dollar stores) and insert oasis floral foam into the plastic container.  Soak the oasis with water.

Apply a piece of tape to keep the oasis in container, it has a tendency to shift especially as the oasis dries up.

creating floral arrangements

To make the floral arrangements start with the biggest flowers in your bunch.  Simply trim the stems to length and insert into the soaked oasis.

Once all the flowers are in place and evenly distributed then add greenery and berries.

I know it’s not the point of the post, but what color is the dresser the scrap wood boxes are sitting on? It’s perfect for a dresser that i want in my living room, but can’t find a shade I like. Thanks.
