Yes indeed I finished the bench for the back door and I can officially say my newest hobby is woodworking. It really was very easy to construct following Ana White’s plans for the Easy Cube Bench from her blog http://www.ana-white.com/.
Here’s my lovely all dressed up with baskets and a cushion:
And these are the pieces I cut to start (some 1×12’s and 1×2’s):
Then after less than an hour I had this:
And after one coat of primer, two coats of white paint, some sanding and one coat of satin poly we have:
And now all dressed and ready to go:
I’m not sure about the cushion in the long run but for now it will stay.

I got your link from Ana's website. You did a great job!!
A friend wanted me to build this, and I told her to come over and we'd build it together and she can use my tools. I've built many of Ana's other plans, but she was interested in cost. Any idea how much you spent on lumber??
Thanks, and again great job!!

Thanks Tasha. The cost for lumber was $60 from Home Depot. (That was #2 pine of course.) Good luck it was really easy.

Love this!! I've been looking at bench ideas for the house I'm moving into this upcoming winter. I want to make something on my own 🙂 I will definitely keep this in mind.

My husband just made these benches for me (he made two to be like a window seat type of thing). I'm curious as to how you made your cushion. That's on my to do list now. Also, where did you get your baskets at? Thanks!

Hi Kathy,
As for the bench cushion, I made a tube out of the fabric and sewed one end shut, filled with some down filling and sewed the other end shut. Then I covered some buttons with the same fabric, made sure the seam of the tube ran down the middle on the under side and sewed the buttons in place.
If I had to do it again – I would use either upholstery foam (little pricey) or one of those foam mattress toppers, sandwich 2 pieces together and cover that. I think the foam would make for a much more tailored cushioned. I know for sure there is a tutorial that Thrifty Decor Chick did on her foam bench cushion that I believe was no sewing involved.
The baskets were from Michaels and I got really lucky that the size fit perfect for my cubbies.
