diy backpack fob valentines
The quest is over this year for candy free valentines. Each year I try to come up with something different (and candy free) for my kids to hand out on Valentine’s Day. This year it will be personalized backpack fobs.
What better way to combine my love for scrap wood and paint than make a cute and functional valentine gift for my kids’ classmates?
I used all scrap 3/4″ x 1/2″ moulding pieces cut to different lengths and painted the bottom portion white. Using a basic rubber stamp alphabet set I stamped the names onto both sides of the painted wood then added a book ring. (And PS they cost me less than $.10 each !)
How to make personalized wood fobs:
Step 1: Cut 3/4″ x 1/2″ moulding to various lengths (I did 3″, 4″ etc. up to 8″). Paint the lower portion white on all four sides.
Step 2: Using a rubber alphabet stamp set brush on acrylic paint only on the letter portion of the stamp. The press the stamp onto the wood fob.
Step 3: Depending on the thickness of the acrylic paint and stamp quality you may need to apply a little bit more paint to the letters in certain spots.
Step 4: Drill hole for book ring at top center of wood fob. Spray the fobs with clear gloss poly to seal the paint.
Step 5: Open book ring and slide one portion through hole in wood fob. I purchased these 12 packs of book rings at the dollar store.
Step 6: Print out cute valentine tags, make a hole punch then attach to book ring. Be sure your child adds their own name to the back of the tag.
A fun, scrap busting Valentine project that’s sweeter than any piece of candy.

This is such a cute idea for class gifts. I would have loved to have made something like this to give out whenever my kids had class parties!
