One dozen cubbies to be exact.
I built my kids a storage wall full of cubbies.
After we bunked the beds (post here) we had this empty wall:
Using Ana White’s plans for the cubby storage wall, I built the cubbies and modified the base supports in order to make use of the large baskets we already had.
I used 2 1/2 sheets of 3/4″ plywood and 1 1/2 sheets of beadboard backing and cut all my pieces:
All constructed and ready for paint:
To finish I used one coat Kilz primer and two coats semi-gloss white.
Total cost (not including fabric bins) $120.
Here’s Pottery Barn’s version for a whooping $760:
I can guarantee the labor to make these is so worth the $640 you’ll save.
Now all three kids have their own designated cubbies to store all those trinkets and what-not kids tend to collect.
And we made the best use of the space for a minor cost.
A side by side of the room transformation:
That was fun but enough work in the kids room for now.

Awesome! I'm visiting via Ana White. I've had these on my "to do" list for a while now. I had a few bad experiences with the circular saw and my boards not being square…. Did you use anything in particular to keep your saw straight and did you use a nail gun? I'm so inspired! Thanks for sharing!

These look great! Your pictures make it look so easy to do!! (I will still need my hubby) But it sure diminishes the case for it's too hard to make! Thanks for the inspiration

Wow.. That takes dedication to build one of those. I am impressed. Great way that you saved money, especially with the holidays coming. I just recently bought a cubby storage unit and I am very pleased with it. Keeps the kids belongings organized and neat.

Just found this via pinterest and I have a question for you. Are these secured together? To the wall? I have a few climbers and I'm wondering how best to secure them without putting too much push/pull stress on furniture?
