A super cute fence style Easter basket made from scrap wood and paint stir sticks. I’m sharing the free plans to build this fun Easter project down below.
A DIY tutorial to build a fence style Easter basket. Make this wood Easter basket using paint stir sticks and scrap wood pieces.
Earlier this week I posted my Martha inspired Easter basket complete with diy chocolate bunnies and eggs. It looks like real dark chocolate without all the calories.
I promised construction plans for the actual basket and I’m here to deliver. If you want more details on the faux chocolate bunnies and eggs check out my Martha inspired Easter basket here.
This fence style wood basket is made possible using paint sticks for the pickets. Paint sticks are very inexpensive and you can make lots of projects with them due to their thin size. This mirror frame is another great example of a project using paint sticks. Down below I’m sharing the free plans in addition to real life steps as I built these wood Easter baskets. Be sure to read through all steps before beginning.

Supplies:
- 1×8 scrap wood pieces
- 1×2 scrap wood pieces
- 2 (10 packs) paint stir sticks
- 1 – 3/4″ dowel @ 9 1/2″l
- wood glue
- miter saw
- pneumatic nail gun
- 1 1/4″ finish nails
- 5/8″ finish nails
- 3/4″ forster bit
- drill
- sandpaper
- white gloss spray paint
Step 1: Follow the cut list in the plans above and begin assembly of the box structure.
Step 2: Assemble the boxes using wood glue and finish nails. You can see I used some leftover scrap wood for these Easter baskets.
Predrill the hole for the handle about 1/2″ deep. Use a 3/4″ forstner bit and center the hole about 1″ from the top end of the handle support. This allows the dowel to sit down in the upright support which makes it more secure.
Attach one side upright to the basket box centered on the side. Then insert the handle dowel using wood glue and attach the other side upright. Use finish nails to secure everything in place.
To cut the paint sticks into fence pickets I kept the plastic wrapping on the stir sticks and cut at a 30 degree angle then flip the bundle over and cut again at 30 degree to achieve the point.
Starting at the corners use wood glue and 5/8″ finish nails to attach the fence pickets. Then work your way across equally spacing the pickets. Fill all the nail holes with wood putty,
sand smooth then finish with white gloss spray paint.
Add some Easter grass and fill with all the goodies! I hope you enjoyed this fence style Easter basket, be sure to share your finished projects and tag me on social media.
