Paint: diy surfboard decor
Foamcore surfboard shapes painted with bright colored stripes make for fun surf themed decor.
Originally these surfboards were used as centerpieces / tabletop decor at our school’s Spring auction.
The taller middle board extends 24″ high and the side boards 18″high.
I sandwiched the foamcore between two 1x2s on edge which makes a sturdy, firm base that is also unobtrusive.
Then my kids had a pool party and we decided to use the surfboards on the fence for decoration.
Foamcore is great to use for temporary decor, it’s lightweight and cuts easily.
How to make surfboard decor:
Step 1: Draw U shape onto foamcore and cut out using exacto knife. For a clean cut make two passes with the knife, the first time go through only the top layer then using a sawing method pass through the second layer.
Step 2: Measure and draw the stripes with pencil.
Step 3: Paint the stripes using acrylic craft paints.
Step 4: Line up surfboards and cut 2 – 1×2 pine boards to fit length.
Step 5: Apply glue to one board and to front side of surfboards, sandwich foamcore between wood boards then screw together with 1 1/4″ screws (predrilled).
