Mechanics and their wrenches, the tools of the trade. I’m definitely not a mechanic but I still use mechanical tools every once in a while. Everyone needs a good set of wrenches in their toolbox for the occasional loose nut or assembly with bolts. Did you know Husky makes two sets of universal combination wrenches that come in their own carrying case? Beautifully packaged so you can see all the options with visible size labels.
Both the Husky SAE and Metric Long-Pattern Universal Combination Wrench Sets come with 10 pieces covering a wide range of sizes. And with the easy carry handle you can grab the entire set and bring it to your work piece. The SAE set includes 10 wrenches covering sizes: 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, 11/16, 3/4, 7/8 in. And the metric set includes 10 wrenches covering sizes: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19 mm. You’re bound to have the size you need with all these increments covered.
Flip open the front cover and pull out the wrench you need for the job. The surface grip open-end design provides up to 80% more grip and reduces the risk of rounding fasteners. On the opposing end the universal design box-end works on 6-point, 12-point, square, spline, E-TORX and partially rounded hex fasteners.
The matte black finish allows for an easy grip and the longer overall length compared to other standard wrenches allow for better access in tight spaces. Designed with the user in mind the 15 offset box-end offers increased clearance against flat surfaces so you’re not scraping those knuckles!
While we love handtools and those wrenches are a thing of beauty there is always a time and place for power tools. Mechanical tools need serious torque especially considering they are often dealing with metal and steel. Meet the Ridgid GEN5X Brushless 18V 4 mode Impact Wrench:
Personally I’m not a shop mechanic and hope to only be changing out lug nuts and tires on the rare occasion but when the time comes I’ll be using this impact wrench. First off it’s heavy if you’re used to handling an impact driver. Coming in at 3.75 pounds behind all that weight is a ton of torque at 5,400 lbs. per inch.
This impact wrench has 4-modes, including a unique auto mode, that helps it to stand out from the competition and make it a must have in any shop.
The auto mode setting automatically shuts the tool down when it begins to impact to prevent overtightening. Nobody wants a stripped nut. Beyond the power is a durable, professional quality die-cast gear box made to withstand heavy and abuse around the shop.
Mechanics are often working in tight, dark spaces so this Ridgid impact wrench is equipped with a tri-beam LED light around the front housing which helps to eliminate shadows. And the 1.2 in. friction ring anvil is compatible with popular impact-rated sockets and allows for quick socket changes.
Mechanical tools, both hand tools and power tools, definitely have a place in the shop. Know someone who is interested in mechanics and loves tools? Do they have a universal wrench set or impact wrench? Check them out here or during your next visit to The Home Depot.
