It’s Friday friends and that means another gift build for the Handbuilt Holiday series. Â Today Ana White and I are revealing the diy moon doll bassinet with free plans to build your own.
As promised we share a new plan every Friday through Christmas for a project you can build in time for the holidays. Â This is the 4th year of this series and we truly enjoy coming up with new builds every year.
This moon doll bassinet was inspired by the baby doll bassinet at Pottery Barn Kids. Â Their version retails for $99 plus shipping, I made my version from scrap wood.
Ana put together simple plans so you can make the moon doll bassinet yourself and finish however you like to match your decor.
I opted to apply a worn weathered looking finish using Deco Art Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint in preservation and artifact with brown wax.
One fun feature on this doll bassinet is the curved back. Â Ana designed the plans using 1×4 boards attached to the sides to form the curve and I love how the boards ‘bend’.
Below are a few notes on the building process. Â I followed Ana’s plans here and used all scrap wood pieces.
Be sure to fill in all screw heads with wood putty and sand smooth.
I painted the entire bassinet using DecoArt Americana Decor chalky finish in presevation.
For the scalloped trim print out a 3″ circle onto cardstock and cut in half. Â Use the half circle as a stencil and trace around the edge following the curve of the moon.
Use DecoArt Americana Decor chalky finish in artifact to paint inside the half circles. Â Once dry sand as desired to distress edges. Â Apply deep brown cream wax over all surfaces to finish and seal the paint.
A fairly easy build that would make a beautiful gift for the holidays for a little one. Â What’s on your holiday gift list to build? Â Looking for some ideas? Â Be sure to check out all our Handbuilt Holiday gift builds here.
