It’s nearly winter when everyone looks forward to all things warm and cozy. Why not make a cozy wood gift basket for that special someone on your list and fill it with simple cozy pleasures.
I whipped up this wood gift basket from my scrap pile (similar how-to plans here) but you can find unfinished wood baskets at most hobby stores in a variety of sizes. Grab one to suit your needs and let’s get painting!
I finished this wood gift basket in a rustic farmhouse style by using one coat of DecoArt Americana Satin Enamel in grey taupe with deep brown wax on top to give it that aged quality. More details down below along with step by step instructions.
Supplies:
- unfinished wood gift basket
- DecoArt Americana Decor Satin Enamels grey taupe
- paint brush
- sandpaper
- DecoArt Americana Decor Creme Wax deep brown
- soft cloth
Step 1: Paint one coat of DecoArt Americana Decor Satin Enamels in grey taupe. It’s a nice, thick acrylic that goes on smooth and fairly opaque with just one coat.
Step 2: Sand the edges to distress and smooth over any paintbrush streaks.
Step 3: Using a soft cloth wipe on the creme wax and then almost immediately go back and wipe off the excess to smooth out the wax layer. This wax dries very fast and there is very little workability.
Once dry you can buff out the wax for a shiny finish if desired. Fill your wood gift basket with all things cozy.
I added the following items in my basket:
- Finding Home Farms organic maple syrup
- Finding Home Farms lavender evergreen soy candle
- fleece blanket
- potted ivy
- Christmas coloring book
Your cozy wood gift basket is now ready for that most deserving person.
