We’re back with another diy gift plan for the Handbuilt Holiday series and today it’s a beautiful tree shaped shelf that anyone would want! Ana White and I have the most fun deciding just which project to build each week, like kids in a candy store! We tend to focus on gifts for kids but this week our build is more geared towards the adults.
Ana has the plans for this decorative tree shelf that’s sure to be a wonderful addition to anyone’s Christmas decor:
This tree shelf is substantial and just the right size for lots of knick knacks and holiday decor.
Inspired by Pottery Barn Kids tree shelf here:
Their version is on sale for $79 plus shipping but you can make your own for about $15 including hardware.
Don’t be intimidated by all the angled cuts. Ana has it all figured out in the plans and for the most part all the angles are the same.
Follow Ana’s plans to build the shelf. I used countersunk 1 1/4″ wood screws at every shelf. Wood glue and clamps will keep it all tight until the glue dries. If your tree shelf has a lot of wobble consider adding a full backing.
My shelf is stained with Minwax Early American and three basic black hooks attached across the bottom.

We will be back next Friday – stay tuned!
