Build: Skylanders storage shelf
Build the perfect cubby storage shelf for Skylanders (or any play figurines) using modified cubby shelf plans from Ana White.
Each Skylander has its’ own cubby slot, the giants just fit into the 5″ x 5″ space and there’s even enough room to double up once the collection grows.
The problem: apparently you need ALL the Skylander figurines accessible when playing the games therefore they end up in a permanent mess on the floor.
The solution: build Ana’s cubby shelf for easily accessible Skylanders!
See how easy it is to change up Skylanders – plus all the options are visible, totally accessible and neatly organized off the floor:
Ana’s plans make for a really fast build, I’ll show you down below how to modify the plans for 3/4″ boards. (I was unable to find 1/2″ cedar boards locally at this time therefore I used the readily available 3/4″ boards.)
I attached the cubby shelf directly to the wall with wall anchors and 2″ screws through the 1/4″ back.
It only extends about 3 3/4″ off the wall, just the right depth for the figures:
I used 3 – 1x4x8 boards and one 2’x4′ – 1/4″ panel for a total cost of $25.
Here’s how to build the Skylanders cubby shelf:
1. Use Ana’s cubby shelf plans as a guide.
To modify for 3/4″ boards make the following changes:
Cut List:
2 – 1 x 4 @ 33 3/4″ (vertical dividers)
7 – 1 x 4 @ 16 1/2″ (horizontal dividers)
2 – 1 x 4 @ 35 1/4″ (sides)
1/4″ plywood @ 17 3/4″ x 35″ (back)
2. In Ana’s plans at Step 1 cut the vertical dividers, make the notch cuts 3/4″ wide and 2″ deep (I think 1 3/4″ should be deep enough, I had extra room with the 2″ depth.)
Notice my notch cut marks below which accommodate for the 3/4″ boards:
3. Cut 5 of the 7 horizontal shelves following the same notch cut marks in picture layout above, only 5″ and 10 3/4″.
I apologize for the lack of ‘in progress’ photos, I simply forgot.
Follow Ana’s plans for the remainder of the build, I used wood glue and 1 1/2″ finish nails everywhere. The 1/4″ plywood back will really help to keep everything square (although a few of my shelves are a tiny bit off!).

This is fantastic! Skylanders are slowly taking over my family room, just as Thomas the Train had done years ago. Love this shelving idea. Thanks!
If you haven't already, I'd love if you'd come join my How To Tuesday link party, too.

This will work for My Little Pony, Skylanders, and the dozen action figures that MUST be displayed but not played with because they are 'a collectable'
